Frequently Asked Questions...

What is the Endowment Fund?

The HNAZ Endowment Fund was created as a tool for donors to support ministries beyond their lifetime. Your gift can touch lives today and for many generations into the future.

Gifts to the Endowment Fund are held in trust and permanently invested. Earnings on the investments will provide perpetual support for new or expanding ministries not normally included in the annual budget. This can help the church to continually reach new people with the gospel message in new and creative ways.

How is the Fund Managed?

The Fund is managed by an Endowment Committee in accordance with the Endowment Charter and donor designations. Endowment assets are invested through professional investment managers to produce long-term earnings and grow principal to keep pace with inflation.

How is Income Spent?

Distributions of earnings are made annually to support ministries selected from grant applications received. Earnings (net of inflation) are available for grants each

Can I Direct My Gift?

Yes! Gifts can be directed to one of our 6 designated accounts:
  1. Undesignated (Preferred, provides greatest flexibility in supporting future needs of the church)
  2. Missions, Evangelism and Outreach
  3. Children and Youth
  4. Education and Scholarship
  5. Worship Arts
  6. Building and Facilities

When Can I Give?

Gifts can be made during your lifetime or after death, depending on your circumstances and goals. Gifts after death are the most common. This allows the donor to maintain financial security until the end of life. Assets remaining can then be used to create a lasting legacy and continue to support ministries.

How Can I Give?

Gifts at death can be made through provisions in your will or trust. This could include any of the following-
• A percentage of your estate or trust
• A stated amount
• Specific property
• Contingent bequest (for example, if a named heir predeceases you, that gift could be directed to the Endowment)

If you leave a portion of your retirement plan (IRA 401k, etc.) to charity, they don't pay income tax on the distribution like individual beneficiaries would. Another great tool is to name the Endowment as beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
Some donors take advantage of special tax laws which allow the donor to make a gift now but retain use of the property, or income from the property, during the remainder of their life. Examples include-
• Gift of real estate with retained life interest.
• Charitable trust (several types)

Is My Gift Tax Deductible?

Yes, a gift to charity during your lifetime qualifies for the charitable deduction on your annual tax return. An end-of-life gift qualifies for a charitable deduction in your estate. Consult with your tax advisor.

How Can I Get More Information?

If you have questions or want more information about the Endowment Fund or ways to give, contact the church office at (260) 356-1614 or email| endowment@hnaz.org. A member of the Endowment Committee, or a pastor will follow up with you.

Can I Make Lifetime Gifts?

You could elect to make a lifetime gift to the Endowment Fund if beneficial to you.
Some donors make an initial lifetime gift so they can observe their gift supporting ministries important to them. They would typically follow that with an end-of-life gift. Lifetime giving options include gifts of:
• Cash
• Appreciated stock (avoid tax on capital gains)
• Real estate (land, rental property, etc.) (avoid tax on capital gains)
• Life insurance policy (by donating the policy or naming the church as beneficiary)
• Gift of real estate with a retained life interest (you continue to use the property for remainder of your life)

Why Should I Give?

A gift to the HNAZ Endowment Fund is a tangible testimony of your long-term commitment to the spirit and grace of God and your church family.
